On April 11, 2017, Portland Abbey Arts in North Portland plays host to The Round. Three musicians will join a slam poet to perform rounds of music and poetry A visual artist depicts their experience of this interweaving of music and poetry, thus creating a singular collaborative evening experience shared by the audience and the artists. The April Round will be a special blues themed round featuring musicians Tevis Hodge Jr, Nick McCann, and Karen Lovely.

The Round originated at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center in Seattle and has since been restarted in Portland by Karen Ward, an African American entrepreneurial pioneer and founder of Portland Abbey Arts (PAA). This arts experience exemplifies PAA’s intentional, intercultural direction and aims of bringing people together across differences to grow cross cultural competence, increase cross cultural understanding of, and appreciation for difference, and to promote an equitable and just society.’

The Portland Round is held at the Portland Abbey ‘Undercroft’ (Lower Level) on 7600 N. Hereford Avenue in Portland, OR 97203 on the second Tuesdays of the month through July 2017. Doors open at 7:15pm with the show starting at 8pm. All ages. The ‘Blues Round’ is a Benefit for the Hereford House Food Pantry. Donation $5-$10., ticket at the door.
