Editor Pick of the Week: Hot toddy cold remedy

Jeoffry Ray/PSU Vanguard

Hurray! It’s the season for warm hotty toddys! However, most of us are sick and shouldn’t be drinking alcohol.

If you are like me, and about 50 percent of Portland it seems, then you’re battling a nasty cold that has been lingering for the last three weeks. I am sick of drinking citrus tea for my throat and eating cough drops as one of my main food groups. So, I went searching for something that would help me feel better but that also tastes good.

I know you aren’t supposed to drink alcohol while you’re sick, but I am pretty sure this is an exception. Because, hey, you need something a little extra when you’re trying to get a bunch of nasty shit out of your nose and throat.

Thanks to Food.com, I found a drink that uses Grandpa’s cough medicine to get healthy! Now that’s a win-win.

Food.com’s Hot Toddy Cold Remedy

Ingredients:
2 ounces whisky (my personal favorite is Jameson)
1 tablespoon honey
4 ounces hot water
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 slice fresh lemon

Procedure:
1. Pour whisky into a mug.
2. Add honey, stir until all the honey has dissolved.
3. Pour hot water into the mug.
4. Add lemon juice, stir.
5. Microwave until hot.
6. Add lemon slice.
7. Enjoy!

Drink right before bed to help you sleep, and you will feel better by the morning!
