On January 9, 2018, Portland Abbey Arts in North Portland plays host to The Round. Musicians Mary Flower, Rae Gordon, and Jarrell Hosley will perform rounds of music with poet Brianna Grisby performing ‘Spoken Word’ between song rounds. Visual artist ‘Ta Zah’ depicts their experience of this interweaving of music and poetry, thus creating a singular collaborative evening experience shared by the audience and the artists.

The Round originated at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center in Seattle and has since been restarted in Portland by Karen Ward, an African American entrepreneurial pioneer and founder of Portland Abbey Arts (PAA), a POC founded, intercultural arts organization working towards societal transformation (justice, equity and inclusion) through collaborative, cross cultural learning, and education via cultural sharing and exchanges across differences.

This month’s Round will be held at The Fixin’ To on 8218 N Lombard St, Portland, OR 97203. Doors open at 7:15pm with the show starting at 8pm. 21+. Donation $5-$10, ticket at the door.
