Ghoulish and ghostly gatherings

Staying on campus tonight? There’s still a lot to do. Student group Queers and Allies (Q & A) and the PSU chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) are both offering Halloween parties to students and non-students alike.

Kicking off with downtown trick-or-treating, Q & A is hosting its Boo Ball 2003 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the third-floor ballroom of Smith Memorial Student Union. The event is open to all ages and costs only $5 for adults and $3 for students with current ID or those aged 6 to 17; those 5 and under are free. However, no one will be turned away if they are unable to pay.

Q & A worked with both Pride Northwest and Residence Life to pull off the event. Anyone can trick-or-treat at 7 p.m. in the Montgomery residence hall, where certain residents have volunteered to hand out candy. Just look for the orange flier on the door of designated rooms.

At 7:30 p.m. the Rose City Swing Band will perform in the ballroom. Then at 10 p.m., DJ Harmonix will take over the music for the rest of the night.

There will be costume contests throughout the night: one for children, one for parent/child teams and then a few different ones for adults. Prizes will be awarded in all categories.

Food, dancing, a photo area and a play area for children are all planned for the event.

Lynette Wolf, this year’s coordinator, was proud of all the donations Q & A received. All profits of the event will benefit Q & A and Pride Northwest.

For those 18 and over, NAACP is offering up a party over in the Shattuck Hall ballroom, Room 212.

All students are invited to the event. It starts at 9 p.m. and goes until 1 a.m. It’s only $5 for non-students and $4 for students with ID.

Looking for a discount? Show up in a costume and you’ll get $1 off the entrance price.

The event will benefit PSU’s chapter of NAACP and is a great opportunity to find out more about the organization.

More information about these events and organizations can be obtained by e-mailing the groups at qa@pdx.edu and naacp@mail.pdx.edu. You can also just show up.
