OSPIRG plans week of activities

Tuesday, starting at 11 a.m., the Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group will host a day of activities commemorating Earth Day 2003.

Informational booths from groups around Oregon such as Cascadia Wild!, the Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticide, VHEMT (Voluntary Human Extinction) and Ecopledge.com will be featured along with OSPIRG-sponsored tables where students can take direct action on important issues.

Other events, such as a children’s parade, music, a campuswide cleanup, various speakers and a Critical Mass-style bike ride are planned for throughout the day.

Wednesday, the festivities kick off at 11 a.m. with a craft fair and more informational tables sponsored by OSPIRG and various conservation groups.

Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., OSPIRG will hold a vegetarian and vegan bake sale. Also, several conservation groups will be tabling in the Park Blocks.

Friday is Arbor Day, and OSPIRG is hosting a tentative tree planting in the Park Blocks.

SOLV IT cleans up

Volunteers are being sought for the 14th annual SOLV IT project, which plans to help clean up more than 90 sites around Portland on Saturday, April 26. Activities include tree planting, wetland restoration, invasive plant removal, neighborhood cleanups and illegal dump site cleanups.

Dollars for buffalo

Buffalo Exchange will be holding a benefit Saturday, April 26, called Buffalo Exchange’s Dollar Day Sale. All proceeds from the day’s sales will go to help the Buffalo Field Campaign located at Yellowstone National Park.
