The Noon Concert series is held weekly every Thursday in the Lincoln Recital Hall (LH 75). This is an opportunity to experience the sounds of the Portland State School of Music & Theater. On Feb. 7, this series featured one of PSU’s own violin instructors, Tomas Cotik. An internationally recognized soloist, chamber musician and teacher, Cotik was the first-prize winner at the National Broadcast Music competition in 1997. Throughout 2003–2005, he was the winner of the Government of Canada Award. He has also received over a hundred reviews for his involvement in more than fourteen CD records for Naxos and Centaur Records. Publications such as Fanfare, American Record Guide, Downbeat, The Washington Post and The Strad have given him high praise.
When the performance began, the room went dark, with only a single light shining on Cotik. He opened his performance with a set of solos before transitioning into a video of him speaking about his thoughts on music. The crowd also had the opportunity to watch performances accompanying Cotik by his students and peer. As the performance came to an end, the packed audience was left entirely mesmerized.
