This year’s editorial pick for caffeinated kicks is the Park Avenue Caf퀌 at 1535 S.W. Park Ave.
This little campus caffeinatorium offers up a nice cup of joe made with Torefazione Italia beans. They also have all the usual espresso concoctions. A half-caf, half-decaf, white chocolate, hazelnut mocha, anyone?
They also serve up an array of tasty sandwiches and Mediterranean treats. The location is prime, and if you go there now, you can watch all sorts of folks sifting through the fallen leaves on the Park Blocks. It is also a great place to eavesdrop on intellectual debates ranging from capital punishment to post-Freudian dream analysis. Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays.
Not first, but certainly not last
The runner-up was Broadway Coffee, nestled snuggling underneath Baan Thai across from Shattuck Hall at 1924 S.W. Broadway. The coffee is strong and they also bake an array of pastries daily. Go check it out between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays.

Go, go, corporate coffee! Seems Oregonians aren’t as “alternative” as we thought. But with both of our top winners, students can enjoy consistent preparation, speedy and friendly service, and quiet, comfortable spots to study.
As an “alternative” to Starbucks and Seattle’s Best, students voted The Meetro in at third place. Located in the King Albert (College Housing NW) Building, this hot spot boasts a TV room, conference room, couches, large chairs and outdoor seating. For long-term studying or study groups, The Meetro is the place to go.
