Portland Fire kick off 2002

The Portland Fire kicked off another regular season of women’s basketball last night, May 29, hosting the New York Liberty. The Fire will be led this year by All-Star guard Jackie Stiles, who led the team in scoring in the 2001 season.

A Fire game is a great family event to attend, and the season runs from June until August. All home games are played on the home court of the Portland Trailblazers in the Rose Garden. The tickets are very affordable in comparison to Blazer tickets. The Fire also include many group, family and package deals as well. Ticket prices start at $7 and range all the way up to $75 for a game. All information regarding the Fire can be found at www.wnba.com/fire.

There are 16 total home games to choose from at the Rose Garden. Games can also be seen on ACSN, ESPN, ESPN2 and KPTV. There is one game being telecasted by NBC this season on Sunday, June 23 against the Houston Comets. There are 32 total games on the regular season schedule for the Fire.

Last season the Fire were 11-21 without a trip to the playoffs. With a revamped roster after the draft and two newcomers from a trade, the Fire will look for better things to come in 2002.
