Refugees respond to war

Emma Frank, who was expelled from Uganda in her youth and found refuge in Ireland, spoke Saturday about the importance of dialogue during wartime and about the marginalization of refugees during “War Stories: Portland Refugees on Life Before, During and After Conflict.”

“People who have experienced war know that there is ‘collateral damage,’ and it is us,” Frank said.

“Now is the time to speak out.”

Frank was but one of a number of refugees from around the world telling stories of their experiences in war, and expressing their feelings about the current state of the world.

The event was held in the SMSU Multicultural Center by the Community Language and Culture Bank.
