Resident’s Council actively works for students

I am writing on behalf of the Residents’ Council of College Housing Northwest, which represents all residents of Portland State University student housing to the board of directors of CHNW. I am writing in response to an article that appeared Friday, Jan. 24, 2003: “College Housing Northwest: PSU restructures partnership with organization; students concerned about possible rent hike.”

Not once in the article did the author mention the Residents’ Council, which also has worked very hard to ensure a smooth transition in this time of reorganization. The council has put much time, energy and resources into making sure that residents are involved and heard throughout the process. The chairperson of the council has worked tirelessly, attending meetings with PSU administration, gathering information and sharing resident concerns. She then brings that information back to the entire council, so that each council member could share the information with residents in their respective buildings.

The article ends with talking about how PSU and ASPSU are actively working to seek student involvement in the process. We, too, the Residents’ Council, also actively work to seek student involvement. The two open forums on Jan. 28 from 1-3 p.m. and Jan. 29 from 4-6 p.m. are being sponsored by the Residents’ Council of College Housing Northwest.

Long before ASPSU and the newly formed Student Tenant Union took on the cause of student housing at PSU, the Residents’ Council was, and remains today, an active organization seeking student input into housing related issued at PSU.

Any questions regarding the Residents’ Council can be directed to 503-725-4364 or ResCouncilChair@chnw.org.
