Golf places 13th at Tournament

Portland State’s women’s golf team placed 13th in the Heather Farr Memorial Tournament this Tuesday. The 16 team tournament was hosted by the University of Colorado. Along with the 13th place finish the Vikings placed third among four Big Sky schools competing at the tournament. The University of Denver won the event with a 307-296=603.

Over the two day 36 hole event, the Vikings shot 329-318=647. The tournament was played on the 6,158 yard, par 72 Omni Interlock Course in Broomfield, Colo.

Portland State trailed Eastern Washington and Weber State, but beat Montana State by 10 strokes.

Standouts for the Vikings were senior Taya Battistella and sophomore Sarah Tiller. Battistella was the top PSU finisher shooting 80-77=157, placing 32nd among 90 golfers. Tiller was eight back, tying for 40th, with 79-80=159.

Portland State hits the green again next week at the Lumberjack Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona.

Volleyball drops match with Pilots

Vikings volleyball has continued their losing streak with a sweep by the University of Portland Pilots. The Pilots swept the Vikings 30-23, 30-23, 30-27, Tuesday in the Peter Stott Center.

Senior Viking Stacy Ball totaled eight kills and teammate Katie Kost totaled 11. Leading the Vikings in digs was Kristin Ratzlaff with eight, while Stephanie Lavinge set up 35 assists.

The Vkings will be back in action tonight against Idaho State in a Big Sky match up. The match will be held in the Peter Stott Center at 7 p.m.

Soccer prepares for the Big Sky

Portland State’s women’s soccer team opens Big Sky play this Sunday at PGE Park. The Vikings will look to start conference play with a win over Sacramento State.

The Hornets have already played one Big Sky match and lost to Northern Arizona. This is a continuation of Sacramento’s five match losing streak. The Hornets have won five of the six all-time meetings with the Vikings, but lost the last time they played in Portland.
