Vikings notch that win

Every thing is bigger in Texas: the hats, the parties, and the PSU Football Team’s win over Stephen F Austin was no different. Saturday’s 21-13 win was a huge victory for the Vikings and gave them back a winning record of 3-2 for the season.

Game day was big fun for junior wide receiver Ryan Brown who scored two of Portland State’s three touchdowns. Brown’s touchdowns were the result of two monumental passes from quarterback Joe Wiser. Wiser’s first pass was thrown 62-yards in the second quarter, but once just wasn’t enough. Wiser shot another bulls-eye into Texas’ defense completing a 60-yard pass. The pass led to the second touchdown by Brown in the third quarter. Wiser completed 20 of 34 attempted passes against Stephen F. Austin, accumulating 297 yards in passing. The third and final touchdown, scored by PSU, was made by junior running back Ryan Fuqua who made a swift 30-yard dash into the end zone. The touchdown against SFA was Fuqua’s fourth for the season.

Saturday’s game, which was held in Nacogdoches, Texas, was the second of three consecutive away games for the Vikings.

PSU vs. EWU

The Viks have an up coming trip to Cheney, Washington, on October 11th to face Eastern Washington. EWU has a season record of 3-3 after having lost the past two weeks. However, the Washington team is not to be taken lightly. Led by sophomore quarterback Erik Meyer, Eastern Washington is still a serious contender. Last week Meyer passed for 312 yards in the game against Idaho State. Twenty-three of those yards went towards a fake field goal attempt that ended in a touchdown. Eastern Washington may not be in perfect form, but they are still out to win the ball game and should be considered a threat.

The Viking men did something right in Texas. What ever it was that motivated them to get things together and win a game, they will hopefully be taking it with them on the road to Washington. Saturday’s kick-off against EWU is slated for 2:05 p.m.
