What do sinners do on Halloween? Dance, baby. Dance.

The Crystal Ballroom will be transformed into a rock ‘n’ roll den of silliness and sin Halloween night for radio station KUFO’s seventh-annual Paranormal Party.

Nationally recognized bands Powerman 5000, Sloth and Fingertight will perform. But there’s more. Be sure to wear a costume, because throughout the night, event organizers will comb the crowd to preselect best-costume finalists. Somewhere around 9:30 p.m., finalists will take the stage to compete for valuable prizes such as a global positioning system, a Nintendo Game Cube with games, and DVDs.

For those more interested in kink, Lola’s Room will house retail establishment Pergatory’s ode to the interactive S&M show, Sinner’s Suite.

Susan Reynolds, marketing director for Infinity Radio, promises a huge, crazy party.

“The ambiance of (the Crystal Ballroom) is perfect for this party,” she says.

MTV darling Powerman 5000 headlines the show. The Boston-area heavy-metal quintet first came onto the popular-music scene in 1997 with the release of Mega!! Kung Fu Radio, and followed it up with 1999’s platinum-selling Tonight the Stars Revolt! On their latest album, Transform, they move away from their bass-heavy ways and into simpler, more melodic territory. But the true fans don’t seem to care. They are “the best band in the universe,” says the creator of Shraz.net, a fan site dedicated to the band. “They possess such a unique sense of style and their music rocks!”

An interesting tidbit: Powerman 5000 frontman Spider One is the younger brother of scary rocker Rob Zombie. Guitarist Mike Tempesta is the younger brother of ex-White Zombie drummer John Tempesta. Small world, it is.

So-cal rock band Sloth has been described as “balls-out” and “dynamic” by reviewers. They first gained notoriety when they crashed the Vans Warped Tour, playing in the parking lots of each city uninvited. This, in true storybook fashion, eventually gained them a spot on the tour. Now, they tour the country in their Winnebago, promoting their major-label debut, Dead Generation.

California nu-metal band Fingertight’s first major-label release, In the Name of Progress is “catchy, yet sounds both hungry and realistically emotive,” says music review site Theprp.com. They have toured with Pearl Jam, played second stage at Lollapalooza and rocked out 10,000 fans at the X Games. Plus, they have a cool, slightly-dirty-sounding name.

Fingertight’s bright, flashing Web site may send you into an epileptic fit, like those Japanese cartoons did a few years back. Nevertheless, check it out at www.fingertight.net.

Infinity Radio’s Reynolds recommends getting Paranormal Party tickets as soon as possible, because they are going fast. See the information box for outlets and prices.
