Where is positive Greek coverage?

I am very upset about your article on “Fraternity brothers duke it out” (Jan. 24, 2003). I have never seen any article in the Vanguard covering what national and local Greek letter organizations are doing right here on the PSU campus to serve our campus and community. There are currently seven national social Greek letter organizations and one local social Greek letter organization active on the PSU campus that consistently plan and participate in philanthropic endeavors to serve our community.

For example, the sorority that I am proud to be a member of, Phi Sigma Sigma, has done an enormous amount of philanthropic activities in just this academic year alone. These include three seminars on issues college students face, with guest speakers from PSU’s various resource centers, in which we invited all students to attend; a very successful Adopt-A-Family Holiday philanthropy; a candle fund-raiser, with proceeds going to the National Kidney Foundation; and we volunteered at a local soup kitchen on Christmas Day. These are just a few of the activities we have implemented or been involved in.

The national sororities on campus also had a very successful Fall Formal Recruitment, in which approximately 60 PSU women attended. I wish the Vanguard would at least cover the positive things the Greek community is doing on their very own campus before resorting to highly publicized (and VERY RARE) occurrences that don’t even happen in our own state.
