Senior Jeremy Wilson and junior Randy Davidson had a tough time at the wrestling NCAA Championship held over spring break. Wilson and Davidson went two and out at the Championships.
In the first day of competition Wilson, Portland State’s top wrestler, lost his opening match to Wisconsin’s Ralph DeNisco, 4-0.
The next day didn’t bring any brighter results for the senior who wrestled his last match as a Portland State Viking. Wilson had to wrestle out of the consolation bracket and was matched up against the number one seed in the tournament. Wilson lost to the Virginia Tech wrestler 6-4. Wilson concluded his career at Portland State with a 107 wins, second to PSU legend Dan Russell (1988-91) who recorded 133 wins. The 184-pound senior finished with a 34-6 record over the course of the season.
The tournament didn’t go any smoother for Davidson, who once knocked back to the consolation bracket, also lost his second match. The junior at 197 pounds lost his first match by technical fall to Missouri’s Scott Baker, 19-2. His second match was against Michigan’s Josh Wechter, who defeated Davidson 20-8.
