Learn herstory
Wendy Judith’s “Lesbian and Gay Fiction” course is sponsoring the Gay and Lesbian Writers and Herstory Lecture series. Today Kristan Aspen will present a slideshow named “Music of Our Own: Women’s Culture in the 1970s.” The presentation is sponsored by the Oregon Council for the Humanities, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Vikings in cyberspace
All students with a ODIN e-mail account and those who have provided an e-mail address to the Office of Information Technologies will receive the Virtual Viking, a weekly newsletter about PSU events and news. PSU departments and programs are invited to submit appropriate information for Virtual Viking by e-mail to [email protected] by 5 p.m. each Wednesday.

Virtual Viking will not advertise non-University programs, or entities or report on events that have already happened. Submissions must include topic title, brief description, date, time, location, associated Web site and contact information. Staff in the Office of Student Affairs is managing the collection and distribution of information for the Virtual Viking. The e-mail will be sent weekly during fall, winter and spring terms and bi-weekly during summer months.

Faculty and staff may subscribe to the list by sending an e-mail to [email protected] with “subscribe virtual-viking” in the body of the message. For additional information contact the Office of Student Affairs at 503-725-4422.

Upcoming workshops, seminars and discussion groups for faculty are “Video Ventures,” May 22, noon to 12:30 p.m. “EndNote Workshop,” May 22, 2 to 4 p.m.; “Research, Final Products, and Assessment,” May 22, 3:15 to 4:45 p.m.; “Archive Your Discussion Postings,” May 22, 4 to 4:30 p.m.; “Getting Your Research Funded: Grant and Contracts,” May 23, 3 to 5 p.m.; “WebCT: Communication Tools,” May 24, 9 a.m. to noon. These workshops are free for faculty. To register, call the Center for Academic Excellence at 503-725-5642.

Kaplan to give free advice for taking the MCAT
Kaplan Educational Centers will host a strategy seminar for taking the MCAT exam. Albert Chen, Kaplan’s national director of graduate programs, will talk about how to be successful in the medical school application process. Students will also have the opportunity to ask Chen questions. The event is free but space is limited. Students can pre-register for the event by calling 1-800-KAP-TEST. The PSU Pre-Heath Society is cosponsoring the event. The event will take place Tuesday May 28, 7-8:30 p.m. at Portland State, call for exact location.
