Tim Kasher, lead man of Omaha, Neb. band Cursive, will debut his new project The Good Life Thursday night at the Blackbird. Kasher has been writing songs for 12 years and with the release of The Good Life’s second record “Black Out” on Omaha label Saddle Creek, he has reached a new level of lyrical pathos and smart playing. The record comes of as almost a concept album focusing on the ins and outs of Midwest boredom, love and drinking many a night away with echoes of Crooked Fingers, Vic Chesnut and Tom Waits.
Along for the trip are keyboardist Jiha Lee, Drummer Roger Lewis and guitarist Landon Hedges along with multi instrumentalist Ryan Fox, all veterans of the Omaha scene with past associations that include Bright Eyes and the Faint. Their work on the album is masterful and it will be interesting to see how they will execute these bold songs live. The sound at the Blackbird is consistently some of the best in town and The Good Life’s debut in Portland has the feel of a “you should have been there” show. See them live and tell your friends, “I remember when I saw them live in 2002” for many years to come.
