Seaside volleyball tournament caters to all

The 21st annual Seaside Oregon Beach Volleyball Tournament, Oregon’s largest volleyball tournament of the year, is just around the corner. The event will be held Aug. 9-11 and attracts nearly 40,000 players, fans and casual spectators to the beach every year. The tournament, sponsored by Coca-Cola and Fred Meyer, features novice to open level players.

The novice division is for beginners who are developing their skills. This level offers men’s, women’s and co-ed doubles and men’s, women’s and co-ed quads.

The largest division, “A,” welcomes players who are at the intermediate level. The majority of competitors (who have had at least a couple years experience) find a fit at this level. This category hosts men’s, women’s and co-ed doubles and men’s, women’s and co-ed quads.

In the open division, players compete for cash prizes. This level hosts men’s, women’s and co-ed doubles as well as men’s and women’s quads. Throughout the weekend, games at this level are highlighted in the center court. The final games are also played in center court at the conclusion of each day.

Non-traditional levels of sand volleyball are featured at Seaside. These divisions include men’s, women’s and co-ed sixes, boys and girls 18-under doubles and quads, masters 35-over men’s, women’s and co-ed doubles, men’s masters 45-over and men’s, women’s and co-ed parent/child (14-under) doubles.

The fee for doubles is $55, quads is $60 and sixes is $65. Registration has begun and the deadline for entry is June 30. A $10 late registration fee will be charged per team after that, and $20 after August 5.
